Tenants make sure your clutter is Gone For Good

Clearing out furniture and other possessions is something most people do when they move home. Sometimes they want to declutter their home before their estate agent markets the property. Almost always there are items home owners or tenants want to get rid of before moving home.

So how can estate agents help their clients?

Sometimes they might advise them to hire a “man and a van” to take unwanted furniture away, or to take stuff to the tip.

But now there’s a smart phone app, courtesy of Gone For Good, that can help clients to clear out their unwanted stuff for free – and support good causes at the same time!

Gone For Good is a free app (available on iPhone and Android) that allows users to get rid of any unwanted clothing, furniture, or other household items by helping them donate the stuff to a local charity that will come and take it away, at no charge. The service, originally trialled in Manchester, was launched nationwide in Spring 2016 and has proved especially popular in London.

How does Gone For Good work?

You simply take a photo of the items you want to donate, enter in your postcode and the app produces a list of the charities that will come and take them all away. Click on your chosen charity and then Gone For Good arranges for the charity to get in touch to agree when they can come and take the items away. It couldn’t be simpler.

Already the app is getting noticed. In 2016 it won an award at the technology-focused Big Chip Awards and was shortlisted for two Charity Times awards. This year is was shortlisted in the “Climate” category at the Digital Agenda Awards for the contribution it is making to sustainable living by encouraging more recycling and re-use.

As for the property industry, the RLA and Foxtons are amongst several players who are supporting Gone For Good and recommending the app to clients and members.

Mark Charnock, Managing Director of Gone For Good, said “Estate agents can play an important role in encouraging clients to act responsibly when they clear out their homes and encourage them to recycle goods by giving them to charities. The Gone For Good app makes that easy as several major charities, national and local ones in London, partner with us. The app takes the hassle out of finding a charity, and clients don’t have to hire a white van man, or pay the council to take stuff away. It solves a problem and saves them money.”

The Gone For Good app is potentially a useful tool for managing agents too. There is a House Clearance function which connects users to those charities interested in major clear-outs, for example when a tenant leaves stuff behind.

You can download the app from the App Store or Google Play, or visit the Gone For Good website.

Estate agents are also able to order leaflets and other marketing materials to give to home movers; just drop Gone For Good a line on hello@goneforgood.org.uk or 0161 262 0161.
